Description
A site where people can submit dreams to make their community better, people can pledge money and materials to those dreams, and everyone votes on the best dreams. The top dream wins everything in the DreamChest!

Data sources used
Boundaries - City Area public data ( we want to create a more accurate geo/social profile of the Dreamers community, which goes beyond the scope of the public information currently available through the Ottawa API, but that's where Google and a little creativity will come in handy:)
The value it provides to residents
A fun way to raise funds! We are building an application to help people and community organizations generate interest, revenue, building materials and volunteer workers, to help put on Events, develop useful technology, and build capacity for small and large community projects - in Ottawa, and world-wide!

Question: So the best idea gets all of the raised funds, and all the others get nothing? What happens to the people who are only interested in donating to one of the many options? Perhaps you could make it a 50/50, 50 percent goes to 'the winner' and the other half goes to each of the charities they were donated to....? Just an idea. I think your heart is in the right place.

Yes, a kickstarter.com approach might be better. Let people see what is close to its goal so they can push it over.

Yes and no. The "favorite" idea will win the main DreamChest, as it is a quarterly competition. BUT each dream will also have it's own dreamchest, meaning we are creating a platform for people to present dreams for events, organizations, projects that would make their community better, and instead of spending hundreds of hours writing proposals to the government, they can create fun and exciting profiles for their projects and get $5 or $10 dollars from a pool of potentially millions of people. And yup we can have little bars to show how close each dream is to it's target.

Great idea, I love it, especially because it can be anything you can "dream" of and people don't need to have funds or necessarily a business plan to start dreaming. It doesn't even need to be completely realistic and that's a great platform for amazing things to start happening.
